Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysisThe Washington Center for Psychoanalysis is a non-profit association based in Washington, DC which provides clinical and non-clinical training in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, as well as other psychoanalytic theory and concepts as applied to the arts, film and theater, as well as to academia, and a full program of psychoanalytic scientific meetings, conferences and lectures. Our community, virtual and real-world, provides many opportunities for collegiality, for education and for promotion of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy through community outreach projects.

Rosellen Brown, "Coming to Writing"

Rosellen Brown, a renowned fiction writer and poet, is the author of two books of poetry and five novels, including The Autobiography of My Mother, Tender Mercies, Civil Wars, Before and After and Half a Heart. Her novel Before and After was made into a major motion picture, starring Meryl Streep and Liam Neeson. Brown’s short stories have appeared in O’Henry Prize Stories, Best American Short Stories and Pushcart Prize anthologies. She is the recipient of Guggenheim and National Endowment for the Arts awards and is a faculty member of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In “Coming to Writing,” she will discuss the creative and psychological roots of her writing, which often places characters in extreme or traumatic situations, challenging their capacity to come to terms with the suddenly altered landscapes of their lives.

Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing

Active members of the Center automatically receive a subscription to Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing (PEPWEB). PEPWEB provides online access to all but the most recent issues of many leading psychoanalytic journals and some books, and includes the entire Standard Edition of Freud's collected works. PEPWEB also enables users to search the literature by author, topic, or key words.
